Groups students in groups of 3-4.  

Explain to the class that they are about to participate in a "quotation mingle".  Explain what happens when someone mingles, so that they understand exactly what is expected. They are to mingle only about the quote given.  Teacher will provide each group with a quote.  

Every group will mingle and discuss what they think the article will be about based on the quotations they have read and provide explanations of why they believe such.

Each group will share their quotes and explanations with the class.

Once students complete the mingle and have heard other quotes and predictions, have them do a quick write on what they predict the article will be about and why.

After the mingle activity, students will read the article the quotes came from and highlight where their predictions are confirmed or contradicted. Then, regather in small groups or as a class to talk, first about the content of the article, and then about how the predicting process worked.

I chose to use this strategy with McCarthyism before reading The Crucible. See attached articles below.
